Billion Pixels of Nanshan Park, Lhasa
Now you are standing at Nanshan Park with a bird view of Lhasa. This is the best place where you can have a panoramic view of Lhasa. Beneath your feet lies the Lhasa River, and you can see the famous Potala Palace in the distance. Zoom in and you can even see clearly the Tibetan characters on the roof. In Lhasa, it’s common to see pilgrims doing long kowtow. They embark on the journey from distant hometowns towards the Jokhang Temple. Regardless of any difficulties on the road, they’ll do a kowtow every three steps by stretching their whole body as long as they can. Tibetan people believe that you can have an auspicious end only if you make 100,000 long kowtows in your life, which represent respect to 100,000 figures of Buddha taken by the Bodhi tree. In the first trip, I had particularly severe headache due to high altitude anoxia. The guide told me that it’s very normal, and I would become better without oxygen uptake, otherwise I would have to carry oxygen bottles all along the way.
