BigPixel World Issue11: Tian’anmen Square
During the special period of welcoming the upcoming 19th CPC National Congress, the BIGPIXEL team visited Tian’anmen Square again to create a big-pixel panorama of Tian’anmen Square. Click below to enter BigPixel Tian’anmen Square.
The BIGPIXEL team took photos from the Tian’anmen Gate-tower where Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed that “The Chinese people have now stood up!” when the People's Republic of China was founded. In the past 70 years, China has gone through trials and tribulations and made great efforts to bring about great changes. We hope we can look back into the past and feel those changes in this way. We also hope we can enable more and more people to feel the great changes that have occurred in China through the alternative service provided by BIGPIXEL.
On the panorama of Tian’anmen Square made by BIGPIXEL, you can see the flag-raising platform and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong right ahead, the National Museum of China to the left and the Great Hall of the People to the right, and you can feel Tian'anmen Square, the sacred place where major ceremonies and diplomatic activities of China are held, as if you are personally there.
The large flower basket in the panorama is specially made to welcome the National Day and the 19th CPC National Congress, with the festive flower and fruit basket as the main feature in which persimmons, pomegranates, apples and peonies, magnolias, Chinese roses, etc. are placed, symbolizing the brilliant achievements China has made in various fields since the 18th CPC National Congress. The flower bed on which the basket is placed is composed of heart-shaped patterns, which expresses good wishes for China's prosperity.
Behind the large flower basket is the Monument to the People's Heroes standing at the center of Tian’anmen Square. It was erected by the government of the People's Republic of China to commemorate the people's heroes who sacrificed their lives in the previous struggles against internal and external enemies and for national independence and people's freedom and happiness since 1840. On the front of the monument is an eight-golden-character inscription in Mao Zedong's handwriting, which reads, "Eternal glory to the people's heroes!" You can see the eight characters clearly by enlarging the panorama. You can even see the reliefs at the bottom of the monument depicting the mighty People's Liberation Army "crossing the Yangtze River successfully and liberating the whole of China" during the war of liberation.
Then pay your attention to the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong behind the monument, which has a two-story glass cornice on the roof. In the middle of the cornice are inlaid sunflower reliefs, which can still be seen clearly when the panorama is enlarged. The sculptures standing on both sides of the Mausoleum mainly depict the 28 years of Chairman Mao's leadership of the new-democratic revolution and the 17 years of the socialist construction, including a total of more than 60 figures. On the panorama, you can see the facial expressions and movements of the figures clearly, and you can even feel the optimism and aggressiveness of the people in that era.
